Droughts don’t always have to break records to cause a lot of damage. And droughts do happen periodically in the Canadian prairies--often enough that a great deal of time has been spent by governments and farm organizations in trying to develop safety net programs that can soften the financial blow to farmers.
As agriculture ministers from across Canada gather in PEI today, New Democrats are committing to a more productive relationship with provinces and territories. The NDP is also calling on the Conservatives to take responsibility for their failure to adequately support Canadian farmers.
New Democrats are dismayed by reports that the sweeping new information sharing measures enacted by the Conservatives through C-51, now the Anti-terrorism Act of 2015, were not, in fact, requested by the Canadian Security Intelligence Service.
